Nick and Eryn met on Hinge in the spring of 2019. Nick jokingly says their relationship began with a lie, as he was searching for someone who lived in Morristown. Eryn, on the other hand, likes to think she played her cards well, setting her location to Morristown since she worked there. However, a shared love of the gym, beer, and a general good time made it easy for the two to connect and made the first date plans possible.
Their first date was at a local dive bar familiar to Eryn, known as Mother’s Ale House. Although the first impression was positive, Nick was slightly taken aback by her choice of a vodka Red Bull at 7:00 p.m. (ah, to be 23 again). However, his initial surprise turned into optimism when Eryn said, "Hey, do you want a snack? They have really good, loaded cheese fries here." In that moment, Nick knew he had struck gold.
The first date went well and just 2 days later Nick and Eryn were together again for the Morristown St. Paddies Day bar crawl. Nick was introduced to Eryn’s longtime friends. Everyone shared one or two (or four or six) pints of Guinness, getting to know each other in between bar hopping and jig dancing.
In those earlier years, Nick and Eryn would frequently visit the Morristown bar scene, more specifically, the Laundromat. Partying until the wee hours of the morning, closing the night off with a late-night grilled cheese and finally stumbling up the hill to Nick’s apartment (which felt like a mountain at 1am).
That all changed for them during the COVID years.
However, that "isolation" didn't stop them from exploring. Thankful for outdoor activities such as hiking the mountains and walks on the beach, which lead the couple to truly get to know each other on a deeper level.
Date nights turned from nights out on the town, to cooking each other unique dinners, watching movies, and baking delicious snacks. Occasionally splurging on some Door Dash from one of Morristown's fancier establishments. (If you haven't tried End of Elm, you are really missing out!)
Soon the weather would start to turn and warmer days lead to outdoor dining and seating, the couple turned to their favorite thing once again...BEER. As avid beer drinkers and self-titled aficionados, Nick and Eryn enjoyed going around and trying out many breweries near and far. From an IPA, Lager, Red Ale, Kölsch, Sour, Stout, Milk infused Oreo cookies & cream Ale, you name it, they've tried it! (or put it on their list to try). The couple has listed a few recommended breweries nearby the venue in case anyone wants to take a peek. (Big fans of Sunken Silo!)
The couple used this experience to not only escape the feeling of being "stuck inside" but to learn about each other and grow. You can learn a lot about a person by what beers they drink and how open they are to trying new things. Plus, it never hurts to laugh at funny and unique beer names with someone!
The adventures of Eryn and Nick would soon continue into something a bit more exciting than just going out to grab a beer (if you could believe that).
In 2023, the couple purchased their first house together, a cozy little ranch in Somerville where they reside today. Blood, sweat, tears (and beer) were poured into that house to turn it into the home they now share together. Despite the ever-growing list of projects, the new experience of building a home and life together has proven once again that Nick and Eryn can face any whirlwind life throws their way. They remain ready and open to wherever their journey takes them next. And no matter what at the end of the day, even if you are dead tired, there is nothing better than sharing a beer with the one you love!
